Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On August 12, 2024, China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CAERI) announced the successful performance of the 2024 Li L9, a large-sized SUV under Li Auto, in the "SUPER CRASH" test challenge.

This rigorous test simulates a passenger vehicle being crushed between a heavy-duty dump truck in front and a large truck from behind. The Li L9 not only withstood the extreme conditions but also excelled in key areas such as vehicle structure, occupant protection, restraint systems, electrical safety, and post-accident rescue, earning a "SUPER CRASH" challenge success certificate from CAERI, according to Li Auto's press release.

The test scenario involved a Li L9 SUV being subjected to a rear-end collision by an 8-tonne truck while simultaneously being compressed against a 30-tonne heavy-duty truck in front. Remarkably, the vehicle's A, B, and C pillars remained almost intact, and the passenger cabin structure preserved its integrity, demonstrating exceptional body strength. During the impact, the airbags deployed on time, seat belts tightened, hidden door handles popped out, doors opened normally, the E-CALL emergency rescue system was activated, hazard lights turned on, and the in-car display screen continued to function.

Li Auto emphasized that the success of the 2024 Li L9 in this challenge is a testament to the company's meticulous development philosophy and its deep expertise in crash safety. According to the automaker, the Li L9 features a proprietary defensive body structure designed to provide flagship-level safety protection for every family member. The vehicle's body-in-white consists of more than 75% high-strength steel, with over 28.9% being hot-formed steel. Critical structural components, including the A, B, and C pillars, sills, and door impact beams, are constructed from high-strength, hot-formed steel, creating a cage-like protective structure. The Li L9's body torsional stiffness reaches 31,971 Nm/deg, ensuring the passenger cabin maintains its integrity during a collision by effectively absorbing and distributing the impact forces.

To further protect occupants from collision impacts, the Li L9 is equipped with nine airbags as standard, including second-row side airbags, and side curtains covering all three rows.

The automaker added that the Li L9's comprehensive safety measures are the result of extensive development, including 64 virtual simulations and 212 real-world crash tests, ensuring that the vehicle meets the highest safety standards for family vehicles. The Li L9 has been tested to withstand rear-end collisions at speeds of 88 km/h with a 70% offset and center pole impacts at 50 km/h.

As of July 31, 2024, Li Auto has cumulatively delivered a total of 873,345 vehicles, with the Li L9 and Li L7 each surpassing 200,000 units, and the Li L8 exceeding 150,000 units. The newly launched Li L6 achieved over 10,000-unit deliveries in its first full sales month and surpassed 20,000-unit deliveries in both June and July.
